France’s First Lady Valerie Trierweiler, who is the partner of President Francois Hollande, has left Greece after an extensive vacation but the French media are buzzing about it.
Trierweiler, a political journalist, spent her holidays with her three sons from her second marriage in a luxurious five-star hotel in Ermioni, a small town in Argolis, Peloponnese, Greece.
Her colleagues accused her of being too luxuriant when there is rising unemployment in France as she was swimming carefree in the blue waters of Greece and enjoying extravagant provisions reportedly paid by French taxpayers, although she said she paid for the trip herself.
The hotel has nightly costs ranging from 7,190-8,110 euros ($9,630-$10,860). Hollande, a Socialist, campaigned against austerity measures in France but supported them for Greece.
The French can’t stop talking about it and they’re not happy. Many journalists wonder why Trierweiler chose a 5-Star hotel when Hollande directed his Cabinet ministers to take humble holidays and preferably in their own country.
Trierweiler, who works for Paris Match, said she was the victim of malicious statements and said she chose the hotel after finding an offer at the site Travel-prive.com. She said the price seemed a value.
